Pretty Green Clothing, Liam Gallagher's Clothing Range @ Wood
Formed in 1991 in by Liam and his elder brother Noel in Manchester, Oasis (Originally known as The Rain) took the music world by storm with their debut album 'Definitely Maybe' in 1994 and 'What's the Story Morning Glory' in 1995. Their Musical style is heavily influenced by The Beatles. This influence was frequently labelled as an "obsession" by the British media. Musically and lyrically, they have also cited bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Smiths, Neil Young, The Stooges and The Stone Roses as their major influences.
Mod culture and the Punk way of thinking have also influenced their style.
Now the Oasis legend Liam Gallagher’s take on the fashion world has spread to Wood and it will be here to stay.
“A guy who doesn't like clothes means nothing to me," says Liam Gallagher, front man of the band Oasis. Gallagher, who has a reputation as a stylish mod to defend, took the logical step and founded his own fashion label, Pretty Green.
His Pretty Green clothing brand, named after a song by the Jam, has just hit stores. With the entire collection being comprised of ‘Limited Edition’ pieces Liam has aimed for a very exclusive high end look, only settling for clothing he’d be proud to wear himself.
The Pretty Green menswear range currently consists of t-shirts, polo shirts, hats and a very rare Parka #1. Oasis may have disbanded but fans can still buy into Liam’s mod-chic look through menswear collection Pretty Green.
The swaggering front-man may have thrown out his toys for the last time on stage, but Gallagher remains firmly in the design seat on the Pretty Green project which he has co-developed with much-respected menswear designer Nick Holland of Holland Esquire fame.
Launched for autumn 09 with a capsule collection of knits, branded T-shirts, and nylon outerwear available directly to consumers via Pretty Green’s website, the brand has widened its net to buyers with a distribution strategy masterminded by former Ted Baker international sales manager, Dean West.
The 100-piece collection is a sophisticated affair for spring 10, embracing Gallagher’s neo-mod leanings.
Tailoring is a significant component in the narrow-cut silhouette which includes striped Henley blazers, paisley print shirts, button-down twill shirts and woolen pea coats with regimental buttons, selvedge-edge Japanese denim jeans and a Kobe leather collarless bomber jacket. Decidedly against the skinny jeans trend Liam aims to bring a new edge to men’s clothing whilst remaining stylish and “not too garish”.
The Pretty Green circle logo adorns the front of the t-shirts and is part of a stamped on logo on the polo shirts and hats.
The limited edition Parka #1 is aiming to capture Liam’s iconic mod style. Hand dyed to create a vintage look the Pretty Green Parka is a one-size fits all garment designed to look just as good on women as it does on men.
When asked about his jump from the stage to the cutting room he replied "Clothes and music are my passion. I'm not here to rip anyone off and I'm not doing it for the money either. I'm doing it cuz there's a lack of stuff out there of the things I would wear,". The range is retro-inspired, featuring polo shirts, knitwear, scarves, jackets, t-shirts, hats and of course, that much talked-about parka.
Is it any good? Well, you can make up your own mind on that one. Pretty Green spent it’s first season as an online exclusive to www.prettygreen.com and has now spread to 30 select stockists across the UK and we’re one of them, already seeing massive success from their online store But while many such sartorial ventures are ill-advised and even worse executed, the combative Oasis front man has sensibly stuck to style staples such as crew-neck knits, polo shirts and lightweight jackets.
"Clothes and music are my passion," Wearing top clothes and singing in tune are pretty important. They're pretty much the same thing."
Working in tandem with British tailor Nick Holland, Gallagher seems to have hit the right notes, with the demand causing the Pretty Green website to crash just seconds after the collection went on sale on 4 June.
Looks like he could have another hit - and a "pocketful of pretty green" to boot.
